Mobile Search Results

Steve Long from Precision Legal Marketing. And today, I’m going to talk to you about mobile search for law firms. You may have noticed that you and everybody else you know has one of these smartphones now. And so don’t you think it would be pretty important to make sure your website shows up when people are doing a mobile search? So what is mobile search? How does it really work? Go to a browser right now on your mobile phone, type in divorce lawyers and whatever city you’re sitting in at the moment, and you will see that there will be a couple of ads at the top and a couple of ads at the bottom.

Mobile Advertising for Attorneys

If you watched my video series on PPC where we talked a little bit about mobile, you will know that those are the paid positions on the search engines. Doesn’t matter what browser you’re using, there is going to be ads there. So let’s just use Google AdWords as an example. When you log in, you will know that over 55% of the clicks today, that are coming from those paid ads, are going through to a mobile device. So it’s hugely important that you’re there. Not only that, but those clicks that you’re getting from mobile phones versus computer, are actually a lot cheaper. So it’s very cost-effective to advertise on mobile.

So at the top of those mobile search engines, there is typically anywhere between one and three ads above the map section. If you scroll down to that map section, your mobile phone’s job is to show you the results within your specific geography. So you may see some competitors there if you did a search in your local market. The way to show up on those maps, is to make sure that all of your citations from various sites like Google Local, or even Yellowpages.com, or any of the hundreds of other sites that you need to have your name and address and phone number listed on are correct.

Organic Search

Below that, is the organic search results, and that’s really where you want to be. Although the ads are the number one position, most people will go down and look at those organic results. So you want to make sure you are number one. The most effective way to make sure you have a shot at that, is having a mobile-optimized website.

Responsive Designs

You may have recently heard the term, responsive design. What that really does, is it allows your website to re-size to various screen sizes, mobile, tablet, and desktop computer.  Of note is Google’s recent algorithm change, termed by industry insiders like me as Mobilegeddon. And that basically threatened everybody with a website, that if it wasn’t mobile optimized you were going to disappear off the first page of the searches. It didn’t really happen that way. But I can definitely tell you, if you do not have a mobile-optimized website, get one now.

I could throw tons of stats and numbers at you guys, but the most important thing to keep in mind is that, you, your clients, your friends, your spouse, everybody you know pretty much is using a smartphone.  So make sure that you can be found on it. That’s it for now. Steve Long from Precision Legal Marketing, (757) 561-6811, or leave me some comments below and let me know what you think.
