Introduction

You’re charged with a crime, or you’re being investigated for a crime, and you’ve scheduled an appointment to meet with us. What’s going to happen at that first meeting? Hello, my name is Dan Cogdell, I’m a criminal defense lawyer in the state of Texas.

First Meeting Expectations

Here are several things you need to know about the first meeting you have with us, and what sort of things to expect.

Background

The first thing we want to do is to learn about who you are, what your background is, what your educational experience is, what your business experience is, what your personal experience is. We can only fairly and properly represent you if we understand where you’re coming from and who you are.

Allegations

The second thing we do, after finding out about who you are and what your experiences are, is we talk to you about the allegations, or the potential allegations, against you. We explain the law to you. We explain the elements of the offense to you. We explain the penalty ranges that you might be facing in the event of a conviction.

Attorney Fees

The third thing that we do is we talk to you about fees. We talk to you about how much it could cost you, about potential expenses, about investigators, about experts, about the timelines, and so forth.

Create Plan

And the last thing we do when we meet with you, when we meet with you on that very first time, is we map out a to-do list. What we expect of you to be working on, and what we expect from you on how to help us, and conversely what we’re going to be doing for you and how we’re going to be helping you.

Cogdell Law Firm

We look forward to our first meeting with you. We look forward to learning about who you are, to explaining the process to you, and to mapping out a workable game plan for your case. Thank you for watching, my name is Dan Cogdell.
