Cases That Won’t Be Taken

Hello, my name is Dan Cogdell. I’m a criminal defense lawyer here in Texas and I’ve been practicing law here for 32 years.

The question is, are there any types of cases that my law firm won’t assume responsibility for and assist individuals who are charged with them? The answer is yes. Let me give you a little back story first.

I’ve been a lawyer here like I say for 32 years. I have literally tried everything from traffic tickets to intoxication manslaughter to capital murder to the Enron case to the Brance Dividian case and everything in between. You name it and I have defended it. So I say this not coming from a position of arrogance but coming from a position of a person who understands what he’s best focused and what he’s best suited to do. So let me tell you there are really three types of cases that I won’t assume responsibility for.

Narcotics Distribution Cases in Houston

The first is if you’re charged with a large scale narcotics distribution ring. If you’re an alleged cartel member or an alleged mass importer of an illegal drug. There are great lawyers out there. There are a lot of good lawyers that focus on that area. But if you are charged in a large scale distribution case we don’t assume responsibility for it.

Sexual or Physical Child Abuse Cases

The second is if you are charged with a serious bodily injury to a child case. If you are charged with some sort of sexual abuse of a child or physical abuse of a child generally speaking it’s just not our cup of tea. While I have successfully defended it in the past I usually decline representation on them currently.

Habitual Felon Cases

The last area of responsibility that we generally decline is if you are a habitual felon. If you’ve been to the penitentiary or convicted of multiple felony offenses usually speaking we don’t assume responsibility for your case. Now, that’s not to say that all those three types of individuals or types of cases shouldn’t have great criminal representation, they can, they should and it’s available. It’s just not for our firm because we decided that the cases that we best focus on and that we can provide the best assistance on are cases other than those three general types of cases. My name is Dan Cogdell thank you for listening.
