Paying for Medical Bills

A common question that clients have is: If I’m involved in an automobile accident, who’s going to pay my medical bills. Unfortunately, even if it is clearly the other driver’s fault, they don’t pay your bills as you go to the doctor. Therefore we have to find ways to get you to the doctor to get your medical treatment as you’re going. For example, there may be PIP or MedPay benefits to help pay for your medical bills, health insurance, or if sometimes you don’t have any health insurance or other ways, sometimes we have to work with doctors on lien basis which means we promise to pay them from the settlement recovery. And then at the end of the case, if the insurance company, or health insurance, or medical payments is paid, then they would have what’s called a  interest. Then they would want to get paid for paying your bills. Even many doctors and hospitals are mistaken think that they can send their bills to the other driver’s insurance company and they’ll just write them a check. And unfortunately it just doesn’t work that way. We have to get those bills paid from some other means, whether it’s health insurance or other coverage and then to be able to get the recovery for you. I’m attorney Carl Truman, and if you have any questions about what I’ve talked about, call me for a free consultation at 502-222-2222.
