A Veteran Looking Out For Other Veterans 2 | Louisville Personal Injury
A Veteran and An Attorney
As a veteran, I have a passion for helping veterans. I served 28 years in the United States Army Reserves, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel armor branch. So I understand the needs of veterans. One of the areas that I’m passionate about is VA disability claims, looking out for our veterans. The tremendous backlog that we have with the VA system in processing veteran’s claims, I think is absolutely horrible.
Benefits for Veteran Disability Claims
So what I’m trying to do is to help veterans get the benefits for VA disability claims, getting them the appropriate percentage, getting their claim processed, identifying the appropriate medical evidence of what can be done to try to prove their claim. It’s a very, very lengthy, frustrating system. We often help with the initial filing of the claim and then going through the appeal process, through what’s called a notice of disagreement, through the Board of Veteran’s Appeals. So it’s a very lengthy, very frustrating process that we have to go through. But we want to make sure that the paperwork is done correctly upfront. That the process is met and the time deadlines are met, and the appropriate evidence is submitted to the VA in order to get the claim approved as quickly as possible. With a VA disability claim, any type of injury or illness that you sustain while on active duty can be eligible for VA disability benefits. So what we have to do, is sometimes we have to look back at records that are years and years old, to try to identify and pinpoint when this disability or when this injury took.
Some people mistakenly believe that in order to be eligible, it has to be an injury occurred while in combat, and that’s not true. Any type of injury or illness while on active duty, it could be training, it could be on leave. So it doesn’t necessarily have to be in a combat situation to be eligible for VA disability benefits.
