You’ve been charged with a crime, and you’re looking for the right law firm to represent you. Let me explain to you what happens when you come to our firm at the initial consultation. My name is Dan Cogdell. I’m a lawyer here at the Cogdell Law Firm.

Initial Consultation

When you come to our offices, several things happen. First I want to explain to you that we don’t take every case that comes in the door. We’re not a one-stop shop. We don’t represent every type of individual in every type of case.

Background Information

We try to be selective and focus our attention on cases that we can make a difference in. At that first meeting, several things happen. First and foremost, I want to understand and we want to understand who you are, what your background is, what your educational background is, what’s your personal background information, what’s your business information. Who you are and how you got here is important to us.

Attorney-Client Privilege

The second thing that we’re going to explain to you, is the attorney-client privilege. At that very first meeting, we’ll explain to you why any information we learn from you and from working on your case stays between us and you. We’re here to help you, and we want you to be absolutely candid and truthful with us from the very beginning. We can’t form a relationship, a successful relationship, unless it’s based on truth.

Criminal Process

The third thing that we’re going to do, is explain to you the process, what you’re going through, how long it’s going to take, what’s it going to cost, what’s it going to entail. All the different questions that you’ve got in your mind, we want to be able to answer for you.

Law Firm Policy & Mission

The last thing we want to do, is explain to you our firm’s practice, our mission statement, and our policies, and see if we are the right fit for each other.  Again, we don’t represent everybody that walks through the door, nor do we want to. We want to be the right lawyer for the right case.
